Art Jameel is a growing organisation, offering opportunities for driven, passionate individuals to join our teams in Jeddah and Dubai: please see details of current positions open for applications below (for all, please email info@artjameel.org with CV and cover letter and state the title of the position in the subject line). The three positions detailed below are based at Art Jameel’s Dubai office; please note the deadline to apply is September 3, 2017.

Operations Manager, Jameel Arts Centre

This is a major opportunity for an experienced administrator to work within a highly creative and community-oriented environment, and to play a role in building and structuring a new centre and organisation. In the winter of 2018, Art Jameel will open a new arts centre in Jadaf, Dubai; the organisation is seeking an administrative leader to join the team now, to work with the director in preparing for its opening. The ideal candidate for this role should have experience of working within an institution or related creative business; of liaising with legal and finance teams and the necessary authorities to establish and manage clear systems and processes; and of managing staff logistics and a day-to-day central calendar.

The ideal candidate for this role is flexible, proactive, and has a keen eye for detail; they should be able to liaise at ease with a wide variety of stakeholders and partners, from local government to international partners, via contractors, suppliers, and others. While the role is mainly ‘admin-oriented’, it still demands an understanding of the wider creative scene and the mission of the Jameel Arts Centre, and a sensitivity towards the needs of staff, artists, audiences and other stakeholders. This is a mid-career level position. An ability to speak/communicate comfortably in Arabic as well as English is preferred. A background in Arts Management or Arts Administration is a plus.

Outreach Manager

Art Jameel is seeking a dynamic communicator to join its team in Dubai. This role focusses on outreach to audiences across the UAE and beyond – encouraging attendance at current exhibitions and events, and building a broad, diverse audience base for Art Jameel’s future. Strong writing and social media skills, and marketing prowess, are required, as is an understanding of and experience in building collaborative partnerships. The Outreach Manager should also have a strong grasp of aesthetics and language that translates across multiple platforms to communicate Art Jameel’s identity.

The ideal candidate for this role is outgoing, creative and proactive; they should be able to communicate Art Jameel’s programme and mission to a wide variety of stakeholders and partners, from local government to international partners, via journalists, bloggers, artists, educators, youth and others. The outreach focus of the position demands an enthusiastic candidate who is already actively involved in the creative scenes of the UAE / Gulf; who comes to Art Jameel with some knowledge of contemporary artists and their work; and who is passionate about engaging new audiences in the arts. An ability to speak/write comfortably in both Arabic and English is essential.

Programmes Manager (Exhibitions and Collections)

This exciting role has particular focus on exhibitions and collections, and plays an active part in shaping the future direction of Art Jameel’s programmes. Reporting to the director, and working alongside other programming and strategy staff, the Programmes Manager will co-devise, research, budget and develop exhibitions for the Jameel Arts Centre Dubai (opening 2018) and other venues, including Project Space Art Jameel, and support the director in building and managing the organisation’s art collection. The role demands a candidate able to produce in-house capsule exhibitions and commissions, while providing administrative and curatorial support to major exhibitions led by established, external curators. Applicants should have experience in managing a collection, including registrar skills, and working within an institutional (preferably not-for-profit or museum) context.

The ideal candidate for this role is a dynamic thinker, open to new ideas, sensitive to the needs of artists, and attuned to, and able to articulate concepts for, a broad, diverse local and international audience base. Knowledge and a curatorial understanding of the contemporary arts scenes and artists of the Middle East is essential; an ability to speak/write comfortably in Arabic as well as English is preferred.

Internships

We also offer occasional internships for those at the start of their careers in the arts, in both Jeddah and Dubai: please email info@artjameel.org with your CV, expression of interest, and with Internship in the subject line of the email.
