Currently under development on the estate of Dumfries House in Scotland, the Jameel House of Traditional Arts and Building Skills in Scotland is a fully-equipped, residential institute for teaching the traditional arts, set in the natural beauty of rural Ayrshire. It will be the largest traditional arts institute in the world.
With courses developed and delivered by the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts as an integral part of its full portfolio of teaching programmes, Jameel House in Scotland is also intrinsically connected to the other Jameel Houses of Traditional Arts – in Cairo and Jeddah. At its full opening, Jameel House in Scotland will welcome students and artisans from across the network of Jameel Houses of Traditional Arts.
Dumfries House – an outstanding architectural monument housing a unique collection of antique furniture – was dramatically rescued in 2007 by HRH The Prince of Wales at the eleventh hour, just before its contents were to be dispersed in an auction sale. The rich heritage of the Dumfries house, and its unique standard of preservation, together with HRH The Prince of Wales’ passion for the traditional arts, make this an ideal environment for the largest of the Jameel Houses of Traditional Arts.
