Between 2010 and 2016, the Art Jameel Photography Award welcomed more than 3000 participants – an indication of the interest in and enthusiasm for photography in the Kingdom. Photography Jameel aims to nurture the grassroots movement in KSA; its activities include workshops, portfolio reviews, talks and more, all aimed at providing opportunities for photographers and artists to share experiences and techniques, plus access to expertise and networks.
A collaboration with Pharan Studio has seen us invest in creating the first community darkroom in Jeddah, which formed the basis of a set of intensive three-day workshops developed through February 2017 with visiting USA-based photographer Osama Esid.
In November 2017, Photography Jameel will be introducing the Photobooks and Zines concepts to the Saudi Photography Community by conducting a range of Talks and Workshops by Local masters and International experts in the field. This journey will result in printing the first photozines of Saudi Artists.
Initiatives continue through 2017 across Saudi Arabia; all interested artists and photographers are welcome to join by signing up here
