Art Jameel recently announced that an exciting project is under development in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Slated to open in spring 2019, the hub is called Hayy: Creative Hub, Jeddah derived from the Arabic word for neighbourhood – referring to the community-oriented nature of the complex, which will be home to art and design galleries, performance spaces, an entrepreneurship incubator, digital studio and an Art Jameel-run contemporary arts centre. Hayy: Creative Hub will bring together the full diversity of Jeddah’s creative scene in one destination, for the first time.
This announcement accompanies that of the Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai, which is set to open in the winter of 2018 and will be one of the first contemporary arts institutions in the city; the Jameel Arts Centre is dedicated to exhibition-making and research, and will have an extensive education programme for all ages. Hayy: Creative Hub, Jeddah and Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai will both contribute to the cultural landscape of the region by providing platforms for artists, creatives, enthusiasts to exchange ideas and view art in a community setting.
